Safeway International to Hold Amateur Pre-Qualifier

The Safeway International LPGA tournament will host an amateur pre-qualifying tournament on Wednesday Feb. 18, 2004 at noon at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club.

The event is open to all women amateurs with a USGA handicap of 3.4 or less. The two amateurs with the lowest scores will be invited to participate in the pro qualifier for the Safeway International, to be held on Monday March 15, 2004 at Legacy Golf Resort at 8 a.m.

Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club is the new host club for the annual LPGA event. The club address is 8000 East Club Village Drive in Superstition Mountain. The entry fee for the pre-qualifier is $25 payable the morning of the event. To register call 602-495-4485 by Monday Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.

The 22nd annual Safeway International will be held March 15-21, 2004 on the Prospector course at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club. Se Ri Pak will defend her title against what is traditionally one of the strongest fields on the LPGA tour. The tournament is organized by Tournament Golf Foundation Inc. Proceeds from the event will go to the Safeway Foundation for distribution to charities in the local area. To date the event has raised over $10 million for Phoenix area causes.
