New Dates, Increased Purse Highlight 2007 Safeway International

Tuesday Nov. 14, Phoenix, Ariz.

Tom Maletis, President of Tournament Golf Foundation Inc. (TGFI) today announced that the 2007 Safeway International, presented by Coca-Cola will be held from March 19-25 at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club.

Maletis also announced that the purse for the 2007 event has been increased to $1.5 million.

The week for the event has been moved one week later to better tie in with the rest of the LPGA schedule in the spring. As was true prior to 2006, the Safeway International will take place one week prior to the first major of the year for the LPGA, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which will be held in Rancho Mirage, California.

"We are excited about being able to increase our player purse for 2007," said Maletis. "We are also enthused about our new dates, one week later than in 2006. This should provide us with a great field, great weather and increased opportunities for fans to enjoy the tournament."

The 2006 Safeway International saw record crowds at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club. They were treated to a thrilling finish, as LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame member Juli Inkster came from behind to win the event on Sunday.

A staple on the LPGA Tour since 1982, the Safeway International traditionally features one of the strongest fields on the Tour each year and 2007 should be no exception. The charitable proceeds from the event are directed from TGFI to the Phoenix division chapter of the Safeway Foundation for distribution to local area charities.

The 2007 Safeway International will again be broadcast on The Golf Channel all four days of play. Times for broadcast will be announced at a later date.

Tournament Golf Foundation Inc. is a group of volunteers who donate their time and provide the primary operations for the annual event. Begun in 1972, the group is now comprised of 45 individuals and couples. TGFI is also the owner and operator of the Safeway Classic in Portland, OR. The Safeway Classic will be held August 20-26.

Safeway Inc. is a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America based on sales. The Company operates 1,767 stores in the United States and Western Canada, and had sales of $38.4 billion from continuing operations in 2005.
