Amateurs Invited to Play in Safeway International Amateur Open
Winner will earn spot in March LPGA tournament

Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 (Phoenix, Ariz.) - Tournament Golf Foundation (TGF), the nonprofit organization that organizes the Safeway International, today announced that the Safeway International Amateur Open will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2008. The 18-hole qualifier will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club on the Prospector Course.

The winner of the Amateur Open will be granted a spot in the Safeway International presented by Coca Cola, the Valley’s annual LPGA tournament scheduled for March 27 to 30, 2008. Second and third place finishers will have an opportunity to compete in the qualifying tournament on Monday, Mar. 24 on the Lost Gold Course at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, and the top two players from that event will advance to the tournament proper.

Female amateur golfers with an established USGA handicap of 2.0 or less are eligible to compete in the Safeway International Amateur Open. The field will be limited to 72 players.

The participant entry fee for the Safeway International Amateur Open is $75, payable to TGF. Interested players can register by calling the Safeway International office at 602-495-GOLF. Deadline for registration is Monday, Jan. 28, 2008.
