Tiffany Joh Wins Safeway Classic Amateur Open, Will Play in Safeway Classic
O'Toole and Michaels Complete UCLA Sweep and earn spots in Tuesday Qualifier

July 7, 2007, Portland, Oregon

Tiffany Joh of San Diego, California has won some important tournaments in the past year, including the US Women's Amateur Public Links title in 2006 and the Pac-10 title, as a sophomore at UCLA this May. On Friday she earned a chance to earn an even bigger title. By shooting a 2-under par 70 at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Canby, OR she earned a sponsor's exemption to play in the LPGA Safeway Classic in Portland August 20-26. Joh won the fourth annual Safeway Classic Amateur Open against a field of 20 players. She now has the opportunity to play with the best on the LPGA tour in the 54-hole event, which features a purse of $1.7 million for professionals.

Joining Joh in the Safeway Classic Amateur Open were UCLA teammates Sydnee Michaels and Ryann O'Toole. They shot the two next lowest rounds, giving UCLA a sweep of the tournament honors. O'TooleÕs even par 72 and Michaels 1-over 73 earned the two sponsors exemptions into the Tuesday qualifier on Aug. 21 against professional players who are not otherwise eligible for the Safeway Classic based on their current tour rankings. The two low scores from that event will also earn spots in the tournament proper Aug. 24-26.

Joh, who finished tied for third in the European LPGA Tour's ANZ Ladies Masters last year in Australia, in addition to her amateur titles, will be playing in her first LPGA event.

Michaels of Temecula, California was the defending champion in this event and also won a similar tournament and earned a spot in the Safeway International in Arizona this past March.

"What a great day of golf by all the participants," said Tom Maletis, President of Tournament Golf Foundation, the Safeway Classic owners and operators. "This event provides amateurs a great opportunity to win a chance to compete with LPGA players and we are thrilled to have Tiffany be a part of this year's event."

This year's Safeway Classic will be the 36th edition. The tournament has raised over $11 million for local children's charities in Oregon through the Safeway Foundation since 1972, and gave over $1 million last year from tournament proceeds.
